Supergirl #17 - 18

written by: Peter David pencils: Leonard Kirk inks: Cam Smith

Part two of Peter David's "let's use all the Giffen Era Justice League's major villains and show how pathetic they are compared to Supergirl" run, this time featuring Despero/L-Ron.

The struggle to contain Despero's psyche has become too much for L-Ron's curcuit mind to bear, and he let's Despero loose, drawing the attention of Supergirl. The two duke it out until Despero thinks he's killed the heroine, but she's not dead - she's grown wings of fire. Umm. OK.

Peter David has unwritten about 50% of Supergirl's character since he began handleing the character over a year and a half ago, and he's also made some pretty drastic changes... fire wings the most recent. As of yet to be explained, they could be psychic projections or they could be wings of an angel... who know (besides David). The two issues with Despero/L-Ron were written well, and the action was great, it's only the advancement in the Supergirl character into something more than alien that I'm not partial to... that ant the fact that Despero/L-Ron's drawn like a standard guy in tights and not a brooding alien (and Kirk's pencils - with Smith's bubbly inks - even make him look cute...arrrghh).

An interesting side story is the 8 year old who thinks he's God, and very well could be. It's almost enough to keep me reading this book, almost.
