It's taken over thirty years but it's finally happened, J'onn J'onnz has his own series, and done by the team from "the Spectre" to boot. J'onn has been an integral part of the Justice League of America since the series was created, and Martian Manhunter had been around for a few years before that. But no one ever thought that the character was interesting enough to hold his own series, but since Keith Giffen's take on Justice League, more and more fans have been asking for the character to break free. With the recent ubersensation that is JLA (thanks to Grant Morrisson), DC decided that if it's ever going to happen now is the time. The best part is that Ostrander and Mandrake were now free to do another project since they ended their highly praised Spectre run early this year.
The writer-artist pair are taking the right slant with the character, with issue zero looking into J'onn's past life on Mars, and his tortured soul since the death of his family and race. J'onn's human lives (yes, plural) are eluded to, and his long relationship with the superhero community are also sure to be a major fascet of the series. Without a doubt, Martian Manhunter will be a spectacular series, full of emotion, action, and suspence. If Spectre was any indication of quality, this series is already one of the best ongoing titles.
