The Maxx #35

writer/artist Sam Kieth (w/ Jim Sinclair)

So it all comes to this, the end of the Maxx as we know it. Sam Kieth's never hid the fact that he doesn't know what he's doing, having little confidence in his writing (although his stories are interesting and thought provoking) and constantly letting his readers know that he has no idea where the main characters are going. Well, this is where they headed, the end. Sam's tapped for ideas for his characters, so he's not using them anymore. This is possibly the last issue we'll ever see Julie or Dave or Sarah or Gone in ever again.

The story in 35 deals with the end of the world, parallell universes, and the relationships of all the main characters. It's really beautiful, there's not much else I can say. It's like saying good bye to someone you know you won't see again. It's sad, but you know it must happen. Sarah and Gone, Gone and Mark, Mark and Julie, and Julie and Dave all have their moments in the story, while at the same time tying up all the loose ends and open questions (still allowing for interpretation though) that the series has brought about.

The new Maxx, starting next issue may either be parallell dimention Julie and Gone et. al. or it may be like friends of Maxx. We'll have to wait and see, but in either case it'll still be good.
