It's been a week, and no new posts?
"Wha' happened?"
Well, I've been busy verking on blog redux number 3 at geekent.com.
Everything's not in place yet, (archives, styles for messages, links, category tracking) but that's where my blogstuffs is at...
everyone begin to update your rolls. That's where it's going on.
Feedback on the site itself is welcome.

Before Kung Fu Friday at the Royal, we decided to have a bite to eat at Phil's Original BBQ. I'd passed by Phil's only a hundred times (at least) and never went in, but not for lack of wanting to.
Phil's, you see, used to be Dipamo's... the original Dipamo's, before DiP broke off and set up shop in the -a-tad-posher-than-Ossington Eglington area. I've always been curious about the Dipamo/Phil split, and why Phil went to being "Phil" and what exactly was the difference.
Well, last night I found out, and I'm sorry to say, that Dipamo's beats Phil's like the proverbial Red-headed stepchild.
Yes, Phil's "Q" (as they like to call it for short, because BBQ is too long) is slow cooked and it's fall apart tender, and that's where it matches DiP's... but it falls short everywhere else.
There's no Saratoga chips, there's no free sparkling water with your meal, and though we have been surrounded by chinless upperclass twits at both places, at least they're not audible at Dip's thanks to some smooth jazz and bluegrass selections. Dipamo's has a better spice rub (it's so amazing you want to wipe it on your gums like crack), and their Q-sauce is tastier.
The service is good at both, but there's no hostess to give you a Fudgesicle afterwards at Phil's, nor is there a huge bowl of toothpics, and Phil's menu lacks in comparison.
I don't wish Phil any ill will (heh, that's funny), as I did quite enjoy my meal, but if it came down to which restaurant would I rather be in when the apocalypse happened... it's Dipamo's all the way (their superabsorbant gingham napkins would help compress any wounds gained from the fury of the horsemen).
The only advantage - aside from a slightly lower price - that Phil has... proximity. He's mere blocks away, whereas DiP's is a special trek (but ever so worth it).
Oh, and hey look here... if you scroll down to the very bottom, you will see that there's a little excerpt from my predecessor blog: the Spider Behind My Toilet raving about DiP's.
Starting off the weekend right: with kung-fu at Kung-Fu Fridays.
This was a spur of the moment thing, just something to get out of the house and not really think about anything after a particularly annoying day at work. I had never been to a KFF before, but was interested after hearing some good things about the atmosphere and seeing the occasional huge line-up for the movies late friday evening.

This week, it was the wackiness that is "Crippled Kung Fu Boxer"... a typical 70's kung-fu flick, full of all the cliches of sloppy choreography, unintelligable subtitles, and bad prosthetics. It was a riot that hurt my sides from laughing.
There's no point in going over plot, because really it was only there to act as framing for some interesting kicks and punches and hunches and gimps. See, there was a hunchback and a shaking man, and they served as the dangerous bad guys of the film... but to look at their disabilities is to underestimate their kung-fu.

One of the cool things about KFF is a) the goofy "let's tell you the whole story in four minutes" trailers for potential and upcoming KFF flicks, and b) the giveaway raffles.
I won little thumb boxing gloves (which I just realize I left outside this morning) and a poster for "Consummate Power: Shao-Lin Tongzigong" --
It's "Real Shaolin's story, really shot on the spot of St. Song Shaulin Temple, Real abbot of Shaolin Temple to be advisor of martial art, Ten scenic spots and historical sites in Henan are displayed for the first time, A Splendid presentation of Golden Horse (H.K.) Film Production Co"...
the poster has four guys standing on their heads in tall grass while youngsters look on... it's.. .umm... interesting.
I'll probably wind up giving it to Carla and Jon if they think it may have a spot in their home...
I'm definitely game to go back for some more KFF, and I was about to say "but it really depends on the flick"... but really, it doesn't matter.
