the sacramental blue comb water.
[listening - soul coughing: a murder of lawyers [live, apparently].]
the photos above ground were taken a walk last weekend as i attempted to walk to the home depot in bay ridge, mostly due to the N/R trains being offline that weekend for some reason. as well, it was close and i wanted to walk around my new borough some more to figure out what's around.
boerum hill, cobble hill and carroll gardens are lovely. however, once you cross the gowanus canal, it becomes gritty industrial, the type of area you don't walk through during night. 3rd avenue down towards the bqe is boarded up, litter infested and generally beatup.
once the streets become numbered, there's this little fake brick building on the west side called the good news barber that is apparently both a church and a barbershop, a good combination in my books.
a shave and be saved!
cut and confess!
lather, rinse, redeem!
you sit along the side, listening to the pastor, waiting for your turn. spinning parables like sports scores, counting hairs like rosary beads. when it's your turn, you sit in the chair, ask for what style you want and tell what's happened since the last time you were there. you might change your cut, go for something new and if he doesn't like it, he'll stab you in the throat with his scissors as a sacrifice! what more could you want?
a barbershop quarter choir!
okay, you can run away now.
