joe strummer, outspoken lead singer from the clash, arguable the world's most important band, died earlier today from a heart attack during the night. he was fifty years old.

if you have an opportunity, watch the 1999 documentary westway to the world, which features all the clash city rockers talking about their time together. caught it on mtv2 last week, adding to the poignancy. it doesn't really help that i was in the midst of compiling a list of those who died this year, so i'm feeling especially glum now.
