Tthe biggest comedian, and one of the biggest stars of the 1980' was Eddie Murphy, with his cheeky smile, his silly laugh, and unforgiveably dirty, loud mouth, there wasn't any reason not to like him.
In 1982 he became a huge star on Saturday Night Live, following that with an equally huge showing at the box office for his stand-up feature Delerious. Between 83 and 87 Eddie's fame began to rise with some of the highest grossing feature films of those years, including Beverly Hills Cop, Coming To America, and 48 Hours. In '87 he decided to go back, briefly, to his stand-up time, and to record the results into another Delerious-style film. The result was Raw, an hour and a half of Murphy's insight into men, women, men & women (together), his rise to celebrity, his family, and uncountable swears.
There's not much you can judge this film on, since it's only one person on a stage. It's just Murphy's performance, and it'se either funny or it's not. It is, but it's also a bit forced. You can tell at this time that his popularity has gone to his head, and it's no surprise that his success declined from this point.
Raw makes you laugh, sometimes harder than others, but it keeps you laughing, which I guess is what sometimes you just really need.
